Blacksmithing/ Bladesmithing is an inherently dangerous activity. We are working in a small environment with temperatures upwards of 1000C. Although it is unlikely you will receive an injury, it is important that you understand the potential risks involved. As a maker, and your teacher for the day, my responsibly is that you learn safe practice in this environment.
RELEASE AND WAIVER OF RESPONSIBILITY
I understand that blacksmithing is an inherently dangerous activity and acknowledge that there are risks inherent in its practice, including without limitation:
(1) the use of and exposure to open flames, propane, hot coals, hot metal, and hot tools.
(2) the use of and exposure to metal flakes, metal dust and sharp objects.
(3) the use of and exposure to power machinery, power tools and hand tools.
(4) exposure to dirt, wax, oil, water, dust.
I understand that my negligence or failure to act with the safety guidelines explained to me on the day may contribute to or result in an injury.
I, the undersigned, am at least 18 years of age*, and in good health. I understand that I will be working in an environment with fire, sparks, machinery, dust, and loud noises. I understand that I risk injury, i.e. burns, blisters, cuts, and bruises from fire, and the equipment used in forging and blacksmithing processes. I will wear cotton or wool clothing, sturdy footwear or leather boots/shoes, (No synthetic clothing or open toed footwear), as well as the PPE that is supplied to me, safety glasses, a leather apron, optional earplugs. I will not hold Arashi Forge, Marvyn Eibner, liable in the event of an accident or injury.
*If not 18 years of age, this waiver must be signed by a parent or guardian.
